The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs and aspiring Kampala Central MP, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, has announced that the city is fully prepared to receive President Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, ahead of his campaign tour scheduled to begin on January 5, 2026.
Addressing journalists in Kampala, Kabanda said the President’s upcoming visit marks a significant moment for the capital, noting that Museveni has consistently demonstrated commitment to Kampala’s development, particularly in infrastructure, security, and service delivery.
“Kampala has greatly benefited from President Museveni’s leadership,” Kabanda said. “If given another mandate, he is ready to push even further—especially in upgrading our infrastructure and improving critical services.”
She said the NRM campaign activities in Kampala will run from January 5 to January 12, 2026, and will climax with a major rally at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Kabanda urged residents to turn up in large numbers to welcome the President and show appreciation for what she described as long-standing leadership and stability.
“I call upon all Kampala residents to come out and attend these rallies,” she said. “Let us thank the President for the peace, redevelopment, and stability he has ensured for our city and country.”
Kabanda also appealed to members of other political parties, including the Democratic Party (DP), which she noted has not fronted a presidential candidate, to rally behind Museveni in the forthcoming general elections.
She extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Ugandans and encouraged voters to support Museveni in the January 15, 2026 polls.
Support for the President was echoed by the Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF), Rashid Sekindi, who appeared alongside the organisation’s Deputy Administrator, Mayambala Mustafa.
Sekindi urged taxi drivers and conductors across Kampala to vote for Museveni, saying the President has consistently listened to and addressed the challenges facing their sector.
“President Museveni understands the challenges faced by taxi operators and has always supported our work,” Sekindi said. “We are confident that he will continue to prioritize our sector.”
Sekindi also appealed for calm during the election period, advising drivers and conductors to participate peacefully in the electoral process and return to their taxi stages without engaging in confrontations.
